7 Tips to Get Your Skin Ready for Spring
Everyone wants soft, smooth skin, but unfortunately, our biggest organ usually gets neglected over the winter. Spring is the perfect time to refresh our skin. Here are some spring skin care steps to help you get ready for flip-flop and T-shirt season.
Healthy Skin Tips for Spring
No matter how exhausted you are at the end of the day, make sure that you wash your face and remove any dirt or make-up. Pick a cleanser that is gentle and effective, but most importantly, works with your skin type. For dry, sensitive skin, acne-prone skin, or aging skin, there are face and body washes that will fit your needs.
Removing the dead skin cells sitting on the top layer of skin by dry brushing, or even just using a washcloth, is an important step in achieving glowing skin. It is important to be very gentle to avoid damaging your skin. For your face, look for gentle scrubs like MyChelle Fruit Enzyme Scrub. It gently polishes the skin using jojoba beads and refined bamboo stem. Fruit enzymes further dissolve away dulling residue for ultra-smooth, ultra-soft skin. And don't forget your lips. My daughter made me a homemade lip exfoliator with coconut oil and cane sugar – simple and effective! Your body and feet can be especially dry. Before a shower or bath, gently dry brush your body using long, sweeping strokes toward the heart with a natural bristle body brush to remove dry skin and promote healthy circulation. Once in the shower, use a body scrub bar or a washcloth to exfoliate. You can also use a homemade body scrub using cane sugar or salt, coconut oil and even a couple drops of lavender essential oil for a soothing experience. If your feet are in extra need of some help, use a pumice stone to help smooth out rough spots.
It’s still very important to keep skin soft and supple with a good quality, natural moisturizer. The best time to do so is directly after showering or bathing, shaving, or exfoliating. Natural oils such as olive or jojoba can also be great for dry skin.
4. Protect your skin from the sun
The sun's harmful UV rays can damage your skin and cause wrinkles, age spots, and even skin cancer. So, it's essential to use sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 and to wear protective clothing, such as a hat and sunglasses, when you're outside.
5. Stay hydrated
Drinking plenty of water can help keep your skin hydrated and prevent dryness, which can lead to flakiness, itchiness, and even wrinkles. Aim to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day.
6. Get enough sleep
Lack of sleep can make your skin look tired and dull. Try to get at least 7-8 hours of sleep each night to help your skin look its best.
7. Follow a healthy diet
Eating a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and healthy fats can provide your skin with the vitamins and nutrients it needs to stay healthy and glowing.
