Olympic Spirit, Hobbies and Living a Long Life!

The 2010 Winter Olympics are happening right now in Vancouver, Canada. I, for one, am super excited about them. I love winter and I love winter sports. Figure skating, aerial moguls, alpine skiing, hockey... there is just so much to take in and enjoy. The one thing that I have taken away from the Olympics, as we get in to day 4 of competition, is the sheer joy that the athletes have for their sport... not necessarily for winning the gold, but just for being there in the Olympics, competing with the best in the world. We could learn a thing or two from them. Passion is important in life. It is important for your health and longevity to do things that you love and find, if not relaxing, well... enjoyable. In fact, a study published in the Archives of Gerontology and Geriatrics showed that life expectancy was significantly associated with leisure time for sports and exercises and a higher proportion of participation in volunteer activities in the community. So get out there, get active, and have fun.
