Have a Great Summer with These Tips
Memorial Day weekend marks the unofficial start of summer, which means warmer weather and the need for sunscreen, bug repellent and allergy support! Here are some safe summer tips for you and your family.
The Environmental Working Group released their best and safest sunscreens for 2022. Check the list to see if your sunscreen makes the grade. I have mentioned this before but my favorite sunscreen for my kids is Badger Sunscreen SPF 30. It protects them like no other sunscreen I have tried, especially for my youngest, who is very fair. It creates a physical block using zinc oxide. It is also scentless and water resistant. Village Green Apothecary carries a selection of safe sunscreens. For more safe sunscreen options click here.
With warmer weather also come mosquitoes, ticks and black flies. I live up north around a lot of lakes, and although it is beautiful, it is a breeding ground for those pesky bloodsucking insects. We use a combination of essential oils, and clothing to avoid getting bitten. Follow these tips to learn how you can protect your family from these common summer insects.
As for allergies, every year they seem to be worse, don’t they? There are many over-the-counter supplements you can try, including homeopathic, herbal and vitamin options. Pathway Allergy Support Plus combines many immune-supportive nutrients like quercetin, vitamin C, nettle leaf extract, bromelain, turmeric, plus other synergistic nutrients. This formula provides powerful upper respiratory support and is excellent for people suffering from allergies during hay fever season.
Here are some tips to decrease allergic reactions.
- Keep rooms free of dust and use an air purification system.
- Avoid feather and down bedding.
- Keep windows closed during times when the allergen is present in the air. Pollens are at highest concentrations between 5:00 and 10:00 am, and lowest after it rains.
- Use mold-proof paint and disinfectant in the house.
- Exercise indoors.
- Do not smoke, and eliminate exposure to second-hand smoke.
- Keep plants that remove pollutants from air. These types include bamboo palm, Boston fern, dracaena, English ivy, ficus alii, peace lily, rubber plant and spider plant.
- Decrease stress, eat healthy foods, and get enough sleep.⠀
Village Green Apothecary wishes you a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend.
