Boost your Immune System with Probiotics
Paula Gallagher on
Okay, we have all seen the commercials that say 70% of our immune system is in the digestive tract. So is eating a yogurt enough to protect our immune system against all that is out there? Personally, I don't think so, but it is a start. The reason that yogurt may offer protective benefits is that it contains probiotics, or beneficial bacteria. Lactobacillus and bifidus are types of bacteria that help protect both the large and small intestines and help keep bad bacteria at bay, possibly preventing infection, reducing incidence of diarrhea associated with antiobiotics, and supporting the immune system.
The health benefits associated with probiotic supplementation continue to surface. Apparently, there are more bacteria in our intestines that there are cells in our body. Therefore it makes sense that maintaining a healthy GI tract is essential to health. Taking a probiotic supplement such as Pathway Polydophilus can provide the beneficial bacteria your body needs. One small capsule a day helps maintain a healthy intestinal tract and keep unfriendly bacteria in check. It can help repopulate the gut after it has been depleted of its natural bacteria. It is believed that the six varieties of friendly bacteria in this unique Pathway formula work together to produce better results than could be expected from each one individually. Plus, Fructooligosaccharides (FOS) is included to enhance the growth of these "good for you" bacteria in the intestine.
This formula is also great for kids and pets. I open up a capsule and sprinkle half a capsule in my dog's food everyday because she deserves a healthy GI tract just as much as I do. A friend of mine, whose child was prone to ear infections, gives her little girl a capsule day for good measure. So keep eating your yogurt, but think about adding a capsule for extra immune support.
