5 Great Reasons to Support Small Business Saturday on November 28 - And Every Day!
This year marks the 11th annual Small Business Saturday. This year, more than any other year, it is important to support local small businesses. There are many reasons to get out there and support local businesses! Here are five:
1. Employment
Locally-owned businesses create more jobs locally and, in some sectors, provide better wages and benefits than chains retailers do. According to inc.com, almost half of the nation's private sector workforce (49.2%) is employed by small business – that's 120 million people!
2. Good for the local economy
Compared to chain stores, locally owned businesses put a much larger share of their revenue back into the local economy, enriching the whole community. In fact, if you spend $100 at a local business, roughly $68 stays within your local economy.
3. Community implications
Local ownership helps ensure that important decisions are made by people who live in the community and who will feel the impacts of those decisions.
4. Unique things
Often, more diversity and unique options are available at local small businesses. Sure, the big box chains carry more stuff, but small stores offer items you may never find elsewhere, and you can frequently special-order items that they don’t usually carry.
5. Better overall experience
In my experience, customer service in a small business far exceeds that of any larger chain store. At Village Green Apothecary we strive to make sure that each and every person is taken care of and has the best possible experience. So, whether it be Small Business Saturday, any Saturday, or any other day of the week, please consider supporting small businesses as part of your regular routine.Categories
