Supplements for Heart Health
Last week, we talked about four numbers that are important for heart health, and this week we will look at supplements that can support your heart. Supplements can be helpful and used in combination with diet, exercise and lifestyle, and can significantly improve cardiovascular wellness. Before taking any supplement, please consult with a healthcare practitioner to make sure it is right for you.
Supplements to Support Healthy Cholesterol
Pathway Cholesterol Support: Several key vitamins, minerals, herbs, and nutrients have a strong scientific history in supporting healthy cholesterol levels. These nutrients include policosanol, guggulipids, pantethine, chromium, niacin, as well as homocysteine factors (vitamins B-6, B-12, and folic acid). Pathway Cholesterol Support contains a combination of these nutrients, along with soy bean extract and plant sterols, which have shown promising results in healthy cholesterol management.
Ubiquinol CoQ10: Coenzyme Q-10 is an important nutrient involved in manufacturing energy in the body. Studies have shown that CoQ-10 has a positive affect on blood pressure levels. As an antioxidant, CoQ-10 also supports healthy cholesterol levels and vascular health. Since CoQ-10 is a fat-soluble nutrient, absorption can be enhanced by combining it with healthy fats like rice bran oil, as you find in Pathway CoQ-10 Plus. In a recent independent study, the combination of ingredients in this product were shown to provide considerably higher long-term Coenzyme Q-10 blood levels than the powdered form of CoQ-10.
Supplements for Healthy Blood Sugar
Pathway Blood Sugar Support: This formula contains a comprehensive blend of herbs, minerals, and vitamins proven in clinical trials to aid in blood sugar balancing. This unique formula promotes pancreatic cellular health, provides powerful antioxidant and protective effects against cell destruction, and enhances the action of insulin in the body. This formula can help protect against secondary complications of diabetes such as damage to the retina, cataract formation, plus nerve cell and heart damage.
Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA): ALA is an antioxidant able to scavenge both water and fat-soluble free radicals within cells or in intracellular spaces. Alpha lipoic acid also extends the life of vitamins C and E. In fact, it has been used in Germany for over 30 years to successfully address diabetic neuropathy in dosages of 300 mg to 600 mg daily. Alpha lipoic acid improves glucose metabolism, increases insulin sensitivity, improves blood flow to peripheral nerves, and stimulates the regeneration of nerve fibers. Alpha lipoic acid plays a crucial role in the metabolism of both fats and carbohydrates into energy.
Supplements for Healthy Blood Pressure Support
Pathway Blood Pressure Support: There are many nutrients that have been found to encourage healthy blood pressure levels. Pathway Blood Pressure Support combines many of these important herbs, vitamins, and minerals into one great formula. Herbs such as coleus forskohlii and hawthorn are included in this formula for their ability to support healthy circulation. Magnesium and hops are added to aid in the relaxation of the central nervous system. In addition, taurine supports the central nervous system and is thought to be helpful in dealing with anxiety.
Garlic: Garlic has a long history of use as both a food and medicine throughout the world. It exhibits many heart healthy properties and has been the subject of much scientific research. Studies support garlic as an effective agent in lowering blood pressure and improving circulation.
Supplements for Overall Heart Health
Green Tea: Green tea contains catechins, which are antioxidants that have protective heart-health effects. Green tea helps lower LDL cholesterol and triglyceride numbers, and may help reduce risk of heart attack and stroke.
Pathway Cardio Support: Heart-healthy nutrients, such as folic acid, and vitamins B-12 and B-6, support healthy homocysteine levels in the blood. Green tea extract contains a potent antioxidant, EGCG. The green tea extract in Pathway Cardio Support is standardized to 50% catachins. L-carnitine plays a role in energy production for heart health. Grape seed extract hawthorn, magnesium, horse chestnut, soy isoflavone extract, vitamin E, vitamin C, and niacin are also part of this formula designed to provide comprehensive support to the heart and vascular system.
Fiber: Having a hard time getting fiber into your diet? Adding a fiber supplement like this one or this one can help lower LDL cholesterol and optimizes blood pathways and prevents clogged arteries.
