Pyrrole disorder, or pyroluria, is a common stress disorder in children and adults that is caused by a genetic abnormality in biochemistry where the body creates too many pyrrole molecules. Pyrroles are byproducts of hemoglobin synthesis, have little or no function in the body, and are excreted in the urine. However, because pyrroles have a strong affinity for binding to vitamin B6 and zinc, excessive amounts of pyrrole molecules can cause a dramatic deficiency of these nutrients and increase oxidative stress. It has been declared a likely carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer of the World Health Organization. Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) is a common condition where there is an abnormal increase in the number of bacteria in the small intestine, which can cause a variety of digestive symptoms. Normally, the small intestine has a small number of bacteria, but in SIBO, the bacteria from the colon migrate upward and grow in the small intestine. This can lead to symptoms such as bloating, abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, malabsorption of nutrients, and intestinal permeability (leaky gut).
Underlying factors that can contribute to the development of SIBO include impaired small bowel motility (due neurologic disorders), structural abnormalities (from Crohn’s disease), medications (such as PPIs – proton pump inhibitors used to treat acid reflux), weakened immunity, and certain dietary factors.
This non-invasive breath test can help to determine the presence of small intestinal bacterial overgrowth. It involves drinking a solution of lactulose, a type of sugar that is not fully digested in the small intestine, but is instead fermented by bacteria. As the bacteria ferment the lactulose, they produce gases such as hydrogen and methane, which are then exhaled and measured in the breath. This test measures the levels of these gases over a period of 3 hours. Abnormal levels of hydrogen and/or methane in the breath can indicate the presence of SIBO.

Every day, we are exposed to hundreds of toxic chemicals through products like pharmaceuticals, pesticides, packaged foods, household products, and environmental pollution. As we have become more exposed to chemical-laden products and to toxic chemicals in food, air, and water, we have been confronted with an accelerating rate of chronic illnesses like cancer, heart disease, chronic fatigue syndrome, chemical sensitivity, autism spectrum disorders, ADD/AD(H)D, autoimmune disorders, Parkinson’s disease, and Alzheimer’s disease.
Toxins are harmful to our health in numerous ways. For example, toxins damage enzymes and impact countless bodily functions. They displace important structural minerals and therefore weaken bones. Toxins damage organs, DNA, as well as cell membranes. And they modify gene expression and impair the body’s ability to detoxify.
This TOX profile screens for the presence of 173 different toxic chemicals, including organophosphate pesticides, phthalates, benzene, xylene, vinyl chloride, pyrethroid insecticides, acrylamide, perchlorate, diphenyl phosphate, ethylene oxide, acrylonitrile, and more. This profile also includes Tiglylglycine (TG), a marker for mitochondrial disorders resulting from mutations of mitochondrial DNA. These mutations can be caused by exposure to toxic chemicals, infections, inflammation, and nutritional deficiencies.
This test measures the following pollutant metabolites:
2-Methylhippuric Acid (2MHA), 3-Methylhippuric Acid (3MHA), 4-Methylhippuric Acid (4MHA) These are metabolites of xylenes, solvents found in paints, lacquers, cleaning agents, pesticides, and gasoline. Exposure to xylenes generates methylhippuric acid isomers.
N-acetyl phenyl cysteine (NAP) NAP is a metabolite of benzene. Benzene is a solvent that is widespread in the environment. It is found in cigarette smoke and gasoline, and is a byproduct of all types of combustion, including motor vehicle exhaust.
Phenylglyoxylic Acid (PGO) Exposure to environmental styrene may slightly increase phenylglyoxylic and mandelic acid. Reduce exposure by eliminating the use of plastic and styrofoam containers for cooking, reheating, eating or drinking.
2-Hydroxyisobutyric Acid (2HIB) 2-Hydroxyisobutyric acid is formed endogenously as a product of branched-chain amino acid degradation and ketogenesis. This compound is also the major metabolite of gasoline octane enhancers such as MTBE and ETBE. Elevated levels indicate environmental exposure and very high values have been reported in genetic disorders.
Monoethyl Phthalate (MEP) MEP from diethyl phthalate is the most abundant phthalate metabolite found in urine. Diethyl phthalate is used in plastic products. Elevated values indicate exposure from various possible sources.
Dimethylphosphate (DMP) & Diethylphosphate (DEP) DMP and DEP are major metabolites of many organophosphate pesticides. Reduce exposure by eating organic foods and avoiding use of pesticides in your home or garden. Living near agricultural areas or golf courses and areas regularly sprayed with pesticides will increase exposure.
3-Phenoxybenzoic Acid (3PBA) 3-Phenoxybenzoic acid is a metabolite of pyrethroid insecticides.
2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic Acid (2,4-D) 2,4-D was an ingredient in Agent Orange, and is most commonly used in agriculture of genetically modified foods, and as a weed killer for lawns.
Tiglylglycine (TG) TG is a marker for mitochondrial dysfunction. Mutations of mitochondria DNA may result from exposure to toxic chemicals, infections, inflammation, and nutritional deficiencies.
N-acetyl-S-(2-carbamoylethyl)-cysteine NAE is a metabolite of acrylamide, which is detoxified through a two-step process. First acrylamide is metabolized by the cytochrome P450s. Second it is conjugated to glutathione in order to make it more water soluble. Acrylamide is used in many industrial processes such as plastics, food packaging, cosmetics, nail polish, dyes, and treatment of drinking water. High levels of acrylamide can elevate a patient’s risk of cancer and cause neurological damage.
Diphenyl Phosphate This is a metabolite of the organophosphate flame retardant triphenyl phosphate (TPHP), which is used in plastics, electronic equipment, nail polish, and resins. TPHP can cause endocrine disruption. Studies have also linked TPHP to reproductive and developmental problems.
Perchlorate Perchlorate is used in the production of rocket fuel, missiles, fireworks, flares, explosives, fertilizers, and bleach. Studies show that perchlorate is often found to contaminate water supplies and food sources. It can disrupt the thyroid’s ability to produce hormones. The EPA has also labeled perchlorate a likely human carcinogen.
N-Acetyl (3,4-Dihydroxybutyl) Cysteine (NABD) NADB is a metabolite of 1,3 butadiene, which is evident of exposure to synthetic rubber such as tires. 1,3 butadiene is a known carcinogen and has been linked to increased risk of cardiovascular disease. Individuals that come into contact with rubber, such as car tires, could absorb 1,3 butadiene through the skin.
N-Acetyl (2,Hydroxypropl) Cysteine (NAHP) NAHP is a metabolite of propylene oxide which is used in the production of plastics and as a fumigant. It is also used in the preparation of lubricants, surfactants, and oil demulsifiers and as a food additive, an herbicide, a microbicide, an insecticide, a fungicide, and a miticide. Propylene oxide is a probable human carcinogen.
N-Acetyl (Propyl) Cysteine (NAPR) NAPR is a metabolite of 1-bromopropane. Chronic exposure can lead to decreased cognitive function and impairment of the central nervous system. Acute exposure can lead to headaches.
2-Hydroxyethyl Mercapturic Acid (HEMA) HEMA is a metabolite of ethylene oxide, which is used in the production of agrochemicals, detergents, pharmaceuticals, and personal care products. Chronic exposure to ethylene oxide has been determined to be mutagenic to humans. HEMA is also a metabolite of vinyl chloride and halopropane, which are used in many commercial chemical processes such as foam glueing, dry cleaning, and in the production of solvents.
N-Acetyl (2-Cyanoethyl) Cysteine (NACE) NACE is a metabolite of acrylonitrile, which is used in the production of acrylic fibers, resins, and rubber. Acrylonitrile is metabolized by the cytochrome P450s and then conjugated to glutathione. Supplementation with glutathione should assist in the detoxification of acrylonitrile.
N-acetyl-S-(3-hydroxypropyl)-L-cysteine (3-HPMA) 3-HPMA is a metabolite of acrolein. Acrolein is commonly used as an herbicide to control weeds and algae in irrigation canals. Humans are exposed to acrolein via oral (fried foods, alcoholic beverages, and water), respiratory (cigarette smoke and automobile exhaust), and dermal routes. On the cellular level, acrolein exposure has diverse toxic effects, including DNA and protein adduction, oxidative stress, mitochondrial disruption, membrane damage, and immune dysfunction.

The Men’s Wellness Panel covers everything found in a basic lab check-up but goes well beyond the typical markers that doctors tend to run. For example, this panel includes a thorough look into thyroid health, hormone balance, markers of inflammation, key nutrient levels, cardiovascular health, and metabolic health.
The Men’s Wellness Panel Includes:
CBC (Complete Blood Count)
A CBC gives important information about the kinds and numbers of cells in the blood, especially red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. This panel looks for many illnesses, including anemia, infections, and leukemia, in your blood.
CMP (Comprehensive Metabolic Panel)
CMP is a blood test that measures your sugar (glucose) level, electrolyte and fluid balance, kidney function, and liver function. This panel includes ALT/(SPGT), alkaline phosphatase, AST/SGOT, bilirubin total, bun, calcium, carbon dioxide total, chloride, creatinine, globulin, glucose, potassium, protein total, sodium. AG ratio, bun/creatinine ratio.
Lipid Panel
The lipid panel measures HDL (high-density lipoprotein), LDL (low-density lipoprotein), VLDL (very low-density lipoprotein), and provides a LDL:HDL ratio. The ratio can help a person evaluate their risk for heart disease.
Urinalysis
A urinalysis is used to help detect substances or cellular material in the urine associated with a range of disorders, including urinary tract infections, diabetes, and kidney disease.
Thyroid Analysis
TSH, FTI, T3 Up, T4 Total, Free T4, Free T3, T3 Total
This comprehensive analysis provides an assessment of thyroid function and can help to pinpoint underlying causes contributing to hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism.
Inflammatory Markers
CRP, Cardiac
C-reactive protein (CRP) is a protein in your blood, which when elevated, is indicative of inflammation. This test can be used to evaluate your risk of developing coronary artery disease, a condition in which the arteries of your heart are narrowed. Inflammation (swelling) of the arteries has been linked to an increased risk of heart disease, heart attack, stroke, and peripheral arterial disease.
Homocysteine
Homocysteine is an amino acid that is produced by the body and is normally changed into other amino acids during the methylation process. However, due to a variety of factors, homocysteine levels can rise. Elevated homocysteine is a risk factor for cardiovascular events in addition to cognitive decline.
Blood Sugar Markers
Glucose
This test detects blood sugar imbalances, such as high blood sugar (hyperglycemia) or low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). Measuring glucose can screen for prediabetes and diabetes and is also important for monitoring persons with diabetes.
HgA1c with eAG
The hemoglobin A1C test provides a measurement of a person’s average blood glucose levels over the past 2-3 months. This serves as a helpful indicator of how well blood sugar is being controlled. Also included is an estimated average glucose (eAG), which is a calculation of a person’s average daily blood sugar level.
Hormone Panel
DHEA, S
This test measures the amount of DHEA-sulfate, which is a weak male hormone (androgen) produced by the adrenal glands. DHEA plays a fundamental role in hormone balance, as well as supporting one’s immune function, energy, mood, and maintenance of muscle and bone mass.
Estrone
Estrone is considered a weaker form of estrogen and is typically produced by fat cells. The more fat, the more estrone, which in turn promotes fat deposits. It is produced from androstenedione, and excess of estrone can cause breast enlargement and contribute to prostate enlargement. In males, a certain low level of estrone is necessary for androgen balance.
PSA
Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) is a substance produced by the prostate gland. Elevated PSA levels can indicate an enlarged prostate, prostatitis, or prostate cancer.
Testosterone F&T
Testosterone is a steroid hormone produced by endocrine tissue in the male testicles. It is also produced by the adrenal glands. This test measures both free and total testosterone levels. Testosterone helps maintain a man’s bone density, fat distribution, muscle strength, sex drive, mood, energy, sperm production, and more.
FSH/LH
Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) regulates the development, growth, pubertal maturation, and reproductive processes of the body. Luteinizing hormone (LH) plays a role in sexual development and testosterone production. Measuring these hormones can be helpful in cases of infertility, low sperm count, or low sex drive.

Vitamin D, 25-hydroxy test measures the level of circulating vitamin D in the blood. This very important vitamin performs many vital roles in the body, including supporting bone and immune health. Many people do not have adequate vitamin D levels. This test can be helpful in identifying an insufficiency and determining an optimal vitamin D3 supplement dosage level.
Magnesium, RBC
Magnesium is a mineral that is important for strong bones and muscles, heart health, glucose and blood pressure regulation, energy production, and nerve function. This test is used to determine the level of magnesium in red blood cells, which provides a very accurate measurement.
Test Type:
Blood test* and Urinalysis
You will receive an email within 24-48 hours from our lab partner, DHA Laboratory, that contains your lab requisition form and necessary instructions. Take this to a local LabCorp Patient Service Center. Please note that this test requires fasting 12-14 hours prior to blood collection.
Results:
In approximately 5 business days, DHA Laboratory will email you your test results.
