Support Peripheral Neuropathy Naturally
Paula Gallagher on
Peripheral neuropathy affects almost 50% of people who suffer from type 2 diabetes. In fact, diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) is the most common type of neuropathy, or nerve dysfunction.
DPN can cause tingling, numbness or pain in the hands, arms, feet and legs. And the prevalence usually increases with age, as well as how long someone has had diabetes.
There are natural supplements that may help support those with DPN. If you are diabetic and DPN is a concern, talk to your healthcare practitioner about these natural alternatives.
Alpha lipoic acid (ALA): 600mg taken daily has been shown in studies to improve symptoms of DPN.
Acetyl-L-carnitine (ALC): Studies have shown that 1000mg three times per day may help reduce pain from DPN and it may also reduce active nerve fiber degeneration, which may play a role in DPN pain.
Benfotiamine: This is a lipid-soluble form of vitamin B1 and it also been shown to reduce DPN pain when 400mg a day was taken.
