Breakfast Today: 3 Super Smoothies
Paula Gallagher on
It has been been said that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but mornings can be a mad rush and breakfasts are usually the item on the morning checklist that gets kicked to the curb.
As I have said before, there should be no excuse to miss breakfast with a little planning the night before. Smoothies are easy, quick and portable so you can take them with you in the car, train or for the walk to school. Stack all your ingredients in a blender the night before, and place the blender in the fridge. In the morning press whip and you are good to go.
Smoothies can be chock-full of protein, vitamins and minerals and offer a high-energy breakfast solution, but they can be a great post-workout meal, too.
Here are three smoothies that are delicious and healthy and will give you and your family the energy you all need for the day ahead.
Berry Hemp Smoothie
1 1/2 cups plain hemp milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp hemp oil
1/4 cup hemp protein powder
1/4 cup wheat germ
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/3 cup pitted dates, chopped
1/2 cup strawberries (frozen)
1/2 cup blueberries (frozen)
Place hemp milk in a blender. Add remaining ingredients in the order specified. Turn the blender on a low setting and process for 20 seconds. Switch to high setting and blend until dates and frozen fruit are broken down, about 1 minute.
Berry Banana Smoothie
2 ripe bananas
1 cup Greek yogurt
1/2 cup pineapple juice
1/2 cup orange juice
1 cup blueberries (frozen)
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Place bananas and yogurt in a blender and blend on low until smooth. Add remaining ingredients and blend on high until well combined.
Green Monster Smoothie
1 cup fresh or frozen pineapple chunks
1 1/2 cups fresh or frozen spinach
2 cups unsweetened rice milk
1 tsp coconut oil
Blend all ingredients in a blender until smooth.
