Paula is a highly qualified and experienced nutrition counselor on the staff at Village Green Apothecary. Paula graduated from the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada, and holds a degree in Applied Human Nutrition. She has since worked both in Canada and the United States as a nutrition and wellness counselor in a variety of professional settings. Paula feels it is fundamentally important to provide nutritional education to people on how to maximize their health through diet, exercise, and supplementation.
Margo’s impressive knowledge base is the result of a unique blend of educational and professional experience. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and a Master of Science degree in Herbal Medicine, providing her with a strong foundation in the history, science, and practice of herbal medicine. Margo is also certified as a Nutrition Specialist through the American College of Nutrition and is a licensed nutritionist. Since joining Village Green in 2005, Margo has been talking with customers in the store, providing private consultations, and writing and researching educational materials to help people learn more about herbs and nutrition. Margo counsels both children and adults with a wide range of health challenges. Her recommendations are always client specific and include the use of herbs, supplements, as well as dietary and lifestyle suggestions.
Neal Barnard, M.D., is an adjunct associate professor of medicine at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, president of the nonprofit Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, and founder of Barnard Medical Center, a primary care medical center that will open in the Friendship Heights neighborhood of Washington, D. C. in Fall 2015.
Dr. Barnard has led numerous research studies investigating the effects of diet on diabetes, body weight, and chronic pain, including a groundbreaking study of dietary interventions in type 2 diabetes, funded by the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Barnard has authored more than 70 scientific publications, 15 books, and stars in three PBS specials on nutrition and health.

Dr. Joseph E. Pizzorno, Jr., is the current President of Salugenecists, Inc. and is the current non-managing Chief Medical advisor for Village Green Apothecary. Dr. Pizzorno, appointed by President Clinton in December 2000 to the White House Commission on Complementary and Alternative Medicine Policy and by President Bush's administration to the Medicare Coverage Advisory Committee in November 2002, is one of the world's leading authorities on science-based natural medicine.
A physician, educator, researcher and expert spokesperson, Dr. Pizzorno is founding president of Bastyr University. Teri is an integrative practitioner and thought leader in nutritional counseling. She received her Bachelors of Science degree from the University of Florida and she is a graduate of the Huntington College of Health Sciences, the National Leadership Institute. She is a Certified Coach Practitioner (CCP) and has extensive certifications and experience in holistic medicinal practices, including Healing Touch, Craniosacral Therapy, Meditation Techniques, and Herbology.
Dr. Rav Ivker is an integrative family physician, health educator, and best-selling author. He is a board-certified holistic physician (ABIHM), a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, and healing touch certified practitioner (HTCP). He has been practicing medicine since 1972. After curing his own chronic sinus condition, his holistic medical practice has focused on the treatment of respiratory disease – chronic sinusitis, asthma, and allergies – and the creation of optimal health.
Susan Levin is the director of nutrition education for the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting preventive medicine, especially better nutrition, and higher standards in research. Ms. Levin oversees clinical research studies and nutrition reviews, provides guidance for federal nutrition initiatives, including the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, and works with patients at the nonprofit Barnard Medical Center, a primary care medical center located in Friendship Heights.
Ms. Levin received her Master of Science in Nutrition from Bastyr University in Seattle and recently earned a specialty certification in sports dietetics from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. She received her bachelor’s degree in journalism and mass communications from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Rob Brown, M.D.’s blended perspective of healthcare and wellness comes from his conventional career as a physician along with a deeply rooted passion for wellness and spiritual exploration. As a radiologist, Dr. Brown has studied the health of over 300,000 patients and has come to the conclusion that wellness is optimally achieved by limiting daily exposure to environmental stressors and giving the body time and a place to heal.
