Healthy Fast Food

I never really understood the concept of fast food, or what we in North America consider fast food. The drive-thru line can be 20 minutes long and that's before I have ordered, paid or even eaten that greasy burger and 1,000 calorie milkshake. The whole experience can rob me of 30 minutes of my day and I am left wondering if this fast food option was really fast. Here are a few options that anyone can make at home, and still have time to spare: AB and H with WG Prep time: 5 minutes A twist on the classic peanut butter and jelly. Almond Butter and Honey with Wheat Germ.
  • 2 tbsps of almond butter
  • 1 to 2 tsps of local honey
  • 1 tbsp of wheat germ
Blend until creamy and spread over multigrain bread. This yummy alternative is loaded with calcium, iron, vitamin E and fiber. Shake It Up Prep time: 5 minutes
  • 1 serving of whey protein
  • 250 ml almond milk, or your favorite beverage
  • 1 tbsp of hemp oil
  • handful of favorite berries
Whey protein aids in stabilizing blood sugar and the hemp oil has essential fatty acids that are important for good immune health and actually help with proper fat metabolism. Yogurt Delight Prep Time: 5 minutes
  • 1 cup of plain or vanilla yogurt
  • 1 tbsp of hemp seeds
  • 1/2 cup blueberries
  • 1/2 cup of your favorite granola
Another quick alternative that will give you energy, fiber, and bone-building calcium. These three alternatives are easy to make, tasty and will make you feel better through the day than the sodium-packed foods available at those drive-thrus. Next time you are tempted to run through a drive-thru, know that your next meal could be less that 10 minutes away. Now that's fast food.
