5 Supplements to Help Keep Your Kids Healthy

Posted on by Paula Gallagher

I am not sure if it’s because I have a 4-year-old that just started school or a-2 year-old who is in daycare, but I am doing my best to keep my kids as healthy as possible. What this means to me is arming them with the best nutrition possible and practicing good hygiene. Today I sent my son to school with strawberries, carrots, blueberries, cukes and carrots... and they all came back home with him. Even trying my best, my kids won’t always eat what I wish they would, so this is when I turn to supplements. I realize that nothing can replace the quality, variety and even the availability of nutrients found in food, and in no way are supplements a replacement for a proper meal. But I also don’t want to my children to be deficient in important nutrients. Here are five supplements I give my children to stay healthy. 1. Multi-vitamin: Provides essential nutrients and boosts immunity. I give them Nature’s Plus Animal Parade chewable. They love the animal shapes and I feel good giving them a vitamin that does not contain anything artificial. 2. Acidophilus: Contains probiotics for digestive health and boosts immunity. Pathway Children’s Acidophilus is grape-flavored and provides healthy digestive support for those 5 years and older. For the younger ones, I like Udo’s Choice Infants’ Probiotic Blend, a powder than can easily be mixed in juice, yogurt or apple sauce. 3. Omega-3's: Contain fatty acids for brain, eye and muscle development. Nordic Naturals ProDHA softgels are strawberry flavored and can be chewed. 4. Vitamin C: Boosts immunity. Nature's Plus Orange Juice Vitamin C chewable tablets are all natural and taste really good. Each tablet provides 100 mg of vitamin C. 5. Vitamin D: Promotes healthy bone and tooth formation and helps the body absorb calcium. Carlson Vitamin D3 drops are easily administered; one drop in water can provide 1000IU of the sunshine vitamin.
