Apples are one of the most popular fruits worldwide, celebrated for their satisfying crunch, sweet and tart flavors, and incredible health benefits. Often referred to by the age-old saying, "an apple a day keeps the doctor away," apples are not only a versatile snack, but they're also packed with vital nutrients that contribute to overall well-being.

## Why Now is the Perfect Time to Enjoy Apples

With apples in peak season during fall, it's the perfect time to take advantage of the freshest and most flavorful varieties. Fall is apple harvest season, which means the apples you find at your local market or farm stand are at their absolute best in terms of taste, texture, and nutrition. When apples are in season, they are often less expensive and more environmentally friendly due to reduced transportation needs. Whether you’re picking your own or buying them fresh, now is the best time to enjoy this fruit.

### What Makes Apples SO Healthy

- **Dietary Fiber:** Apples are a good source of both soluble and insoluble fiber. Soluble fiber helps regulate cholesterol levels, while insoluble fiber promotes healthy digestion.

- **Vitamin C:** One medium apple provides about 14% of the recommended daily intake of vitamin C, which is important for boosting the immune system and promoting skin health.

- **Potassium:** Apples are rich in potassium, which helps maintain healthy blood pressure and fluid balance in the body.

- **Antioxidants:** Apples are packed with antioxidants, such as quercetin, catechin, and chlorogenic acid, which protect the body against oxidative damage from free radicals.

- **Vitamin A and B-Complex Vitamins:** Although present in smaller amounts, apples contain vitamins A and B-complex (B6, riboflavin, thiamine), which contribute to maintaining healthy skin, eyesight, and nerve function.

Together, these nutrients make apples an excellent choice for supporting heart health, immunity, and overall vitality.

## Recipe: Baked Cinnamon Apple Chips

This healthy and easy recipe transforms fresh apples into a delicious snack with a sweet cinnamon twist. Perfect for a guilt-free treat for adults or a wholesome lunchbox addition for kids, you won't believe how easy these are to make!

### Ingredients:

- 2 medium apples (Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, or Gala)

- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

- 1 tablespoon coconut sugar or brown sugar (optional)

### Instructions:

1. Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

2. Slice the apples thinly, about 1/8 inch thick, using a sharp knife or mandolin slicer.

3. Remove the seeds, but leave the skin on for added fiber.

4. Arrange the slices in a single layer on the baking sheets. Avoid overlapping.

5. Sprinkle cinnamon and, if desired, a light dusting of coconut sugar on top of the apple slices.

6. Bake the apple slices for about 2-3 hours, flipping them halfway through. The apples are ready when they are crisp and golden brown.

7. Cool the chips on a wire rack for 5-10 minutes to crisp up further.

8. Store in an airtight container for up to a week, though they’re usually too delicious to last that long!

Enjoy!
