Although, beautiful and serene, it is also a bit remote. With the nearest pharmacy, hospital or urgent care over 1 1/2 hours away, we learned early on when our first child was born how important it is to have on hand a first aid kit for traveling that includes items you may need in case of emergencies. Having these things even when you are close to medical care is still a good idea! Here is a list of items that I believe every parent/caretaker should have on hand for those moments when a local health food store/pharmacy isn’t available. • First-aid manual • Sterile gauze pads of different sizes • Adhesive tape • Adhesive bandages in several sizes • Elastic bandage • A splint • Antiseptic wipes • Soap • Antibiotic ointment • Antiseptic solution (like hydrogen peroxide) • Hydrocortisone cream (1%) • Acetaminophen and ibuprofen • Extra prescription medications (if the family is going on vacation) • Tweezers • Sharp scissors • Safety pins • Disposable instant cold packs • Calamine lotion • Alcohol wipes or ethyl alcohol • Thermometer • Plastic non-latex gloves (at least 2 pairs) • Flashlight and extra batteries • A blanket • Mouthpiece for administering CPR (can be obtained from your local Red Cross) • Your list of emergency phone numbers Now, I know that is a lot. But it’s better to be prepared than not to have it. I also add the following to items to my kit: • [Arnica montana 30C](https://www.myvillagegreen.com/boiron-arnica-montana-30-c.html) (homeopathic remedy indicated for trauma and bruising) • Ledum pelsutre 30C (homeopathic remedy indicated for puncture wounds) • [Aloe vera gel](https://www.myvillagegreen.com/aloe-lifeskin-gel-herbs-aloe.html) (topical for sunburn and other burns) • [Calendula cream or gel](https://www.myvillagegreen.com/boiron-calendula-cream.html) (minor burns, scrapes and skin irritations) • Benadryl - children’s (for allergic reactions) • [Probiotics](https://www.myvillagegreen.com/pathway-kids-acidophilus.html) (good for stomach upset) • Pedialyte or Emergen-C for kids (to prevent dehydration if vomiting and diarrhea occur) Keep in mind that these are for emergenicies. I like to deal with general stomach issues and allergies on a more holistic level, but if your child starts to swell up after being bit by a bug, for example, a dose of Benadryl can help ease the allergic reaction until you get him or her to a doctor. Happy travels and stay healthy! _Photo from [here](https://www.flickr.com/photos/cavalier92/14832743617/in/photolist-oAHFUV-e5aVT9-5reHBq-ffKdRG-6rMqrA-2T9cyo-7b7RN-27KvJU-hVYfo-6GxcGd-rvJJZ-5F1eXP-4PQSCu-28NtaC-7QPnUT-taqfw-5kuheV-9VAbJ7-7D1pV3-7dwgCJ-rvGCE-38bD8u-KWLxw-duyGJ-3pNzaM-26taCc-6Gt8r6-6rGK8n-294sDh-3hKPF6-5kkGCD-3pqRBg-3hKR5k-e55Mo8-hZ4Bi-5reAGd-YcAbh-6QqN3R-e55oiV-6SkdH3-ccXfXd-5i6F68-6HSwzQ-m79gf-8ciwrE-8pgJ2M-59a34s-63Be73-6rL61d-6x2JKQ), with thanks._
